FED: Beazley gratified rather than surprised by ETimor vote

CANBERRA, Aug 31 AAP -Opposition Leader Kim Beazley today said he was gratified rather
than surprised by yesterday's largely peaceful autonomy ballot in East Timor.

"I don't think we're entitled to be surprised. I think this is what a lot of people have
worked for and done very well in the process, in working for it, and we keep our fingers
crossed about it" he told reporters here.

"There's a lot of water to flow under this bridge before the matter is concluded.

"What you could say from yesterday is so far so good and we should be grateful for it."
