Qld: Longreach prepares for flooding

Floodwaters from the swollen Thomson River are expected to hit central Queensland tonight
or tomorrow morning.

Longreach Mayor JOHN PALMER says falls of between 200 and 250 millimetres in the river
catchment area west of the town .. and over 100 mm in Longreach itself .. have already
hit.

He says the town's river is rising slowly .. but once the water from upstream hits
.. its banks will burst.

Police and the SES will be on standby in Longreach tonight.
